Huge game by Bayliss boosts Carleton Place over Pembroke, 4-1

The Carleton Place Canadians' Stephen Bayliss had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 4-1 win over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Bayliss beat Darren Smith with a shot 7:03 into the first period on the power play to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. Carleton Place had gotten the advantage when Pembroke's Mark Petaccio was sent off for major penalty. Jim Roll provided the assist. Bayliss dished an assist on Andy Sturtz's goal that made the score 1-0 Carleton Place at 5:19 into the first period. He added another helper on Sturtz's goal that made the score 3-0 Carleton Place at 15:29 into the first period.

The Lumber Kings' power play was ineffective against the Canadians' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Carleton Place stifled Pembroke's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians forced the Lumber Kings goalie Smith to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Carleton Place struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 20 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Vinny Post, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Brett DAndrea, Kelly Summers, and Evan Peterson, who each chipped in one.

Pembroke was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Lumber Kings surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

Pembroke was led by Liam Biard, who scored the team's only goal. Biard scored short handed 9:11 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. The Lumber Kings played down a man on Chris Minns's elbowing. Sam Gleason picked up the assist.

Cory Simic made 20 saves for the Canadians on 21 shots. Carleton Place registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Pembroke's Smith stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. For the Lumber Kings, Petaccio was ejected from the game.
