Ottawa beats Brockville 3-1 after comeback scareBrockville Memorial Centre Fri, Sep 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brockville Braves tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Ottawa Senators held on for a 3-1 victory. Ottawa took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Brockville storm back on a Liam Neuman goal 17:37 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Senators were led by goalie Alexandre Savard-Belanger, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Savard-Belanger managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.83 prior to the game. The Braves were unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Ottawa could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game. The Senators were led by Shawn Lynch, who had one goal and one assist. Lynch scored on the power play 18:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Ottawa earned a power play opportunity when Curtis Harvey was put in the box for tripping. Zac Tierney picked up the assist. Ottawa also got points from Ryan Collins, who also registered one goal and two assists. Hunter Racine also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Matthieu Desautels, who had one. Brockville could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Braves put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Ethan Weiss and Cory Wilson, who contributed one a piece. The Senators registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Ottawa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jason Wilson was ejected from the game. Andrew Pikul made 31 saves for Brockville on 34 shots. The Braves incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
