GAME RECAP

Cumberland uses shootout to best Cornwall, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Ed Lumley Arena    Thu, Sep 12, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Cumberland overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Grads fell behind 2-1 after a power play goal by Cornwall's Sean King at 18:06 in the second period. Cumberland tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matthew Dupont at 19:55 in the third period.

The Grads' penalty kill excelled, as Cumberland gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Grads kept the Colts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Piccolino made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Travis Douglas also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were David Bennett, Colin Kruse, Tyler Pancel, and Riley Hennigar, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland was unable to stop Cornwall from sending pucks towards the net, and the Colts eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

In addition, Cornwall received assists from Marly Quince and Ryan Patulli, who each chipped in two.

Reilly Turner recorded 30 saves for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cornwall incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Colts, Pierre Ouellette was ejected from the game.
