Pembroke uses shootout to best Nepean, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Sep 11, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Nepean Raiders in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Nepean's shootout goal was scored by Felix Page. Pembroke also got a shootout goal from Jordan Larson.The Lumber Kings came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pembroke fell behind 4-3 after a goal by the Raiders' Francesco Iannantuono at 13:42 in the third period. The Lumber Kings knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Larson at 17:47 in the third period. Pembroke forced Nepean's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Brett Magnus made 20 stops and Ryan Mulder made 10. The Lumber Kings stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pembroke was helped by Keegan Harper, who had one goal and one assist. Harper scored 13:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Sam Gleason picked up the assist. Pembroke also got points from Larson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Reid Murphy also scored for Pembroke. In addition, Pembroke received assists from T Beveridge, Lucas Gonu, Cole Allard, Darcy Haines, and Carl Greco, who contributed one a piece. The Lumber Kings were unable to stop Nepean from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Nepean was helped by Max Robitaille, who grabbed one goal. Robitaille scored 17:57 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Jake Roeper assisted on the tally. Nepean additionally got points from Keenan Hodgson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Josh Zizek as well. More assists for Nepean came via Alexander Sifton, Christopher Smith, and Philippe Gadoury, who each chipped in one. Pembroke's Darren Smith stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Lumber Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
