Kanata outlasts Gloucester, 5-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kanata Stallions escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Gloucester Rangers.

Kanata gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ian Johnson 14:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Stallions found themselves short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Kanata was helped by Connor Cobbold, who finished with two goals. Cobbold scored the first of his two goals at 7:19 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. Devin Fullum assisted on the tally. Cobbold's next tally made the score 3-2 Kanata with 13:29 left in the second period. The Stallions found themselves down a man on Fullum's hooking. Doug Harvey picked up the assist. Nic LaBurn also scored for Kanata. More assists for Kanata came via Derian Plouffe, who had two, Alex Stothart, who had three, and JP Langlois and Braedan Moffatt, who each chipped in one.

Kanata was unable to stop Gloucester from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rangers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Gloucester was helped by Matt Rosebrook, who grabbed two goals. Rosebrook scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:51 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kanata. The Rangers had gotten the advantage when the Stallions' Ben Fanjoy was sent off for interference. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Rosebrook's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 6:53 left in the first period. Dylan McDiarmid picked up the assist. Gloucester additionally got points from Ryan Kuffner, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Matt Foget, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Andrew Rossy, who had two and Luc Deschamps and Sam Dudly, who contributed one a piece.

Cole Skinner made 27 saves for Kanata on 31 shots. The Stallions registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Doug Johnston rejected 22 shots on goal for Gloucester. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
