Pembroke vanquishes Kemptville in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Kemptville 73s in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Kemptville got a shootout goal from Jesse Blais. In addition to the clincher, Pembroke got a shootout goal from Lucas Gonu.

Keegan Harper had one goal and two assists to lead the Lumber Kings. Harper scored 14:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Jordan Larson provided the assist.

In the losing effort, the 73s were sparked by Dylan Giberson, who racked up two goals and one assist. Giberson scored the first of his two goals at 16:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. C Quinn picked up the assist. Giberson's next tally made the score 3-2 Pembroke with 7:50 left in the second period. Dean Galasso assisted on the tally.

Pembroke excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Lumber Kings' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Pembroke averages 2.3 goals per contest.

Pembroke also got points from Larson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Nicolas Lavoie also scored for Pembroke. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Reid Murphy, Blake Peavey, Brandon Kosik, and Liam Biard, who each chipped in one.

Kemptville kept the Lumber Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 36 saves on 40 shots.

Kemptville additionally got points from Galasso, who also had one goal and one assist. Kemptville also got a goal from Hayden Hanson as well. More assists for Kemptville came via Olivier Chabot and Blais, who contributed one a piece.

Pembroke incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The 73s' Jacob Tugnutt stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Kemptville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
