Kemptville beats Cumberland 2-1 after comeback scare

The Kemptville 73s survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cumberland Grads on the way to a 2-1 win.

Kemptville made the score 2-0 on a goal by Jesse Blais at 2:59 in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 2-1 when Bobby Williams scored 10:51 into the third period.

The Grads were stymied by the 73s netminder Jacob Tugnutt, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Tugnutt will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.95.

Kemptville was led by Blais, who registered one goal.

The 73s stifled Cumberland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kemptville's offense rang up 35 shots on the Grads' net.

Kemptville also got a goal from Dean Galasso as well. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Quinn Wichers, Jonathan Cyr, Brandon Cole, and Dylan Giberson, who each chipped in one.

Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Kemptville power plays. The Grads were held below their usual level of production. Cumberland puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

More assists for Cumberland came via Travis Douglas and Martin Frechette, who contributed one a piece.

The 73s incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Reilly Turner recorded 33 saves for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
