Winnipeg Junior Jets uses shootout to best Montreal Ice Storm, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Ice Palace at the W.E.M. Wed, Jul 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Winnipeg Junior Jets defeated Montreal Ice Storm in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Montreal Ice Storm got a shootout goal from Dovar Tinling. In addition to the clincher, Winnipeg Junior Jets got a shootout goal from Skyler Bruce.In a losing effort, Montreal Ice Storm was led by Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero, who had two goals. Van Houtte-Cachero scored the first of his two goals at 8:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Winnipeg Junior Jets. Van Houtte-Cachero's next tally made the score 3-3 with 5:01 left in the third period. Winnipeg Junior Jets was paced by Trey Zagresbski, who grabbed one goal. Zagresbski scored 7:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Winnipeg Junior Jets. Briley Wood provided the assist. Winnipeg Junior Jets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Winnipeg Junior Jets also got a goal from Riley Borody as well. Other players who recorded assists for Winnipeg Junior Jets were Luke Brenton, Rory Neill, and Eric Alarie, who contributed one a piece. Montreal Ice Storm managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Montreal Ice Storm finished below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. Montreal Ice Storm kept Winnipeg Junior Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Kizlik made 33 saves on 36 shots. Michael LaStarza also scored for Montreal Ice Storm.
