Slayton's hat trick boosts Connecticut Yankees over Winnipeg Junior Jets, 5-1

Jack Slayton lifted Connecticut Yankees to a 5-1 victory with a hat trick against Winnipeg Junior Jets.

Slayton notched his first tally 2:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:06 into the second and at 2:26 into the third.

Connecticut Yankees' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Winnipeg Junior Jets power plays. Connecticut Yankees kept Winnipeg Junior Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and William Irvine made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Connecticut Yankees additionally got points from Charlie Smi-lo-vic, who also registered one goal and one assist. Connecticut Yankees also got a goal from Gregory Spitznagel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Connecticut Yankees were Ryan Panico, who had two and Andrew Hansen, David Chen, Tyler Kopff, and Evan Brown, who contributed one a piece.

Connecticut Yankees' defense shut down Winnipeg Junior Jets' forwards for much of the game, and Winnipeg Junior Jets got off only 14 shots during the contest. Winnipeg Junior Jets' penalty kill unit could not stop Connecticut Yankees' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Winnipeg Junior Jets was led by Riley Borody, who scored the team's only goal. Borody scored 2:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Connecticut Yankees. Paulhiver LaFreniere assisted on the tally.

Matteo Genarro rejected 13 shots on goal for Connecticut Yankees. Connecticut Yankees incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Winnipeg Junior Jets incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
