Jamestown blows out Soo, 6-3

The Soo Eagles had trouble finding ways to stop the Jamestown Ironmen, which beat Eagles, 6-3.

The win gave Jamestown a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

The Ironmen was paced on offense by Evan Ritt and Nicholas Sierra, who combined for six points. Ritt finished with two goals and one assist and Sierra also notched one goal and two assists.

Jamestown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Ironmen's offense rang up 38 shots on Soo's net.

Jamestown additionally got points from Sierra, who also registered one goal and two assists and Luc Gerdes, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ryan Urso also scored for Jamestown. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Huba Sekesi, Dylan Zink, and Kenny Curtis, who each chipped in one and Ryan Doucet and Tyler Dunagan, who contributed two a piece.

The Eagles forced Jamestown goalie Joe Ballmer to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Soo was helped by Brandon Adams, who had two goals. Adams scored the first of his two goals at 4:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo. Sean Murphy provided the assist. Adams' next tally made the score 4-2 Jamestown with 19:34 left in the second period. Cody Von Reuden assisted on the tally. Soo also got a goal from JD Cotroneo as well. More assists for Soo came via Jared VanWormer, who had three.

The Ironmen's Ballmer stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Jamestown totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-2 on the power play. Tyler Marble recorded 32 saves for the Eagles. Soo ended with 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors.
