Team East squeaks by Team California, 4-3CC-Stars Sat, May 11, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Team East escaped with a 4-3 victory over Team California. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Gregory Johnson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Team East was led by Johnson, who tallied one goal. Johnson scored on the power play 11:16 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Team East. Team East had taken the advantage when Team California's Drew Punnett got sent off for hooking. Team East also got points from Nikita Samoylov, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joe Bender also scored for Team East. More assists for Team East came via Tristan Ramage, Timothy Gelatt, Ryan Price, Anthony Tonkovich, and Trevor Recktenwald, who each chipped in one. Team California could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. Team California was helped by Mick Nisbet, who finished with one goal. Nisbet scored 1:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Team East. Team California also got a goal from Troy Loggins as well. In addition, Team California received assists from Trevor Jensen, who had one. Team East took out Joseph Licata after he had made 11 saves and installed Nick Bretzger in goal, where he finished with 12 saves and the win. Team East incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Team California's starting goalie, Cole Semchak, made 10 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Danny Kowalski, who stopped eight shots. Team California registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
