Matthew Wintjes recorded a shutout against the St. Michaels Buzzers as the Newmarket Hurricanes picked up a 1-0 win.

The win gave Newmarket a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Brandon Francisco's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 15:51 in the second period. Elliott Burlon assisted on the tally.

The Hurricanes were led by Francisco, who tallied one goal.

Newmarket excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 39 shots on St. Michaels' net.

Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Calvin Higley, who had one.

The Buzzers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Newmarket power plays.
