Jamestown boosted by Ballmer's play in net, beats Kalamazoo 2-1Blue Rink Wed, Apr 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Joe Ballmer stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Jamestown Ironmen to a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings. The win by Jamestown clinched the best of five series at 3-0. The Ironmen were paced by Evan Ritt, who registered one goal and one assist. Ritt scored 15:42 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Jamestown. Luc Gerdes provided the assist. Jamestown put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kalamazoo to score on any of its four power plays. The Ironmen forced the Jr. K-Wings goalie Marcus Due-Boje to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Ryan Doucet also scored for Jamestown. Kalamazoo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Jamestown power plays. The Jr. K-Wings were led by Mac McDonnell, who scored the team's only goal. McDonnell scored 15:33 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Luc Boby assisted on the tally. Jamestown incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kalamazoo's Due-Boje stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
