Wenatchee falls to Fresno in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Gateway IC Wed, Apr 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Matt Salituro gave the Fresno Monsters a 2-1 (OT) victory over the Wenatchee Wild when he scored 7:52 into the extra period. After the loss made the series score 2-1 in the best of five series, Wenatchee faces elimination next time out. Fresno was led by goalie Tomas Sholl, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Sholl managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.87 prior to the game. The Monsters were led by Salituro, who had one goal. Fresno excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Monsters relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Salituro, Mitchell Snyder and Dan Sherer took 15 of the team's 28 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Mark Bittner, Kyle Buffardi, and Trevor Husch, who each chipped in one. The Wild stifled Fresno's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Monsters were unable to stop Wenatchee from sending pucks towards the net, and the Wild eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Wenatchee was led by Evan Schmidbauer, who scored the team's only goal. Schmidbauer scored 12:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Tyler Bruneteau provided the assist. Fresno incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Robert Nichols recorded 26 saves for the Wild. Wenatchee incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
