Wenatchee's comeback falls short, Fresno wins 3-1Town Toyota Center Sat, Apr 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Fresno Monsters managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end. Fresno led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Monsters' Mitchell Snyder's scored at 11:37 in the second period to put Fresno up 3-0. With the win, the Monsters evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown. Fresno's Tomas Sholl was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Sholl certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.0 entering the contest. Wenatchee's power play was ineffective against the Monsters' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Fresno's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Wenatchee power plays. The Monsters were helped by Andrew Herlofsky, who grabbed one goal. Herlofsky scored 14:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fresno. Fresno also got a goal from Dan Sherer as well. The Wild excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Wenatchee's offense rang up 36 shots on Fresno's net. The Wild were led by Max McHugh, who scored the team's only goal. McHugh scored 19:37 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fresno. Joshua Hartley provided the assist. The Monsters incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Wenatchee's starting goalie, Robert Nichols, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nick Schmit, who stopped three shots. The Wild incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
