Wenatchee rips Fresno, 7-0Town Toyota Center Fri, Apr 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-0 win over the Fresno Monsters. The win gave Wenatchee a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. Fresno's 15 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Monsters let up five goals while on the penalty kill. The Wild were led by Derick Kuchera, who finished with one goal. Kuchera scored 10:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Joseph Sullivan provided the assist. Wenatchee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fresno to score on any of its four power plays. The Wild forced the Monsters goalie Tomas Sholl to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The defensemen of Wenatchee were also effective in Fresno's zone, and came away with two goals. Wenatchee additionally got points from Joshua Hartley, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Chris Kerr, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Noah Nelson, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Jono Davis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Evan Schmidbauer also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Nicholas Kuchera and Blake Butzow, who each chipped in one and Jacob Barber and Max McHugh, who contributed two a piece. The Monsters were led by Newton Fuller, who took four shots. Robert Nichols made 23 saves for the Wild on 23 shots. Wenatchee ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For the Wild, Martin Keckes was ejected from the game. Sholl recorded 34 saves for Fresno. The Monsters ended with 53 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors and one major. Fresno ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Shipstad was ejected from the game.
