Fairbanks erases deficit to stun Kenai River, 3-2

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Kenai River Brown Bears, 3-2.

Fairbanks never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Ice Dogs fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Kenai River's Zack Zulkanycz at 3:16 in the second period. Fairbanks knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Colton Wolter at 11:21 in the third period. The Ice Dogs scored the game winner at 18:57 in the third period on a goal by Wolter.

The win by Fairbanks clinched the best of five series at 3-2.

The Ice Dogs were paced by Jayson Angus, who racked up one goal.

Fairbanks kept the Brown Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Zelzer made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Fairbanks additionally got points from Wolter, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Devin Loe also scored for Fairbanks. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Duggie Lagrone, Garret Clemment, Nick Hinz, and Jakob Romo, who contributed one a piece.

Kenai River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Dogs to score on any of their four power plays. The Brown Bears forced Fairbanks goalie Steve Perry to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Kenai River also got a goal from Albin Karlsson as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Judd Loewenstein, Alec Butcher, Conor Deal, and Alex Jackstadt, who each chipped in one.

Perry rejected 29 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kenai River incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
