Zelzer stymies Fairbanks, Kenai River wins 2-1

Marcus Zelzer stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Kenai River Brown Bears to a 2-1 victory over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

With the win, Kenai River evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown.

The Brown Bears were paced by Alex Jackstadt, who registered one goal. Jackstadt scored on the power play 9:28 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kenai River. Kenai River had gotten the advantage when Fairbanks' Colton Wolter was sent off for roughing. Alec Butcher assisted on the tally.

Judd Loewenstein also scored for Kenai River. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Vincent Stefan, Jake Bushey, and Zac Lazzaro, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs' defensemen bolstered Fairbanks' offensive attack, as they bombarded Zelzer with 14 shots.

The Ice Dogs were led by Lawrence Cornellier, who scored the team's only goal. Cornellier scored on the power play 11:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Fairbanks had gained a power play chance when Stefan was whistled for tripping. Max Birkinbine picked up the assist.

The Brown Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Steve Perry made 25 saves for the Ice Dogs on 27 shots. Fairbanks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
