Stewart stymies Amarillo, Corpus Christi wins 2-1

The Corpus Christi IceRays relied on the sparkling performance of Hayden Stewart in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Amarillo Bulls.

The win gave Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

The IceRays were paced by Brandon Berkley, who registered one goal. Berkley scored 16:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. Beau Walker picked up the assist.

Corpus Christi put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Amarillo to score on any of its three power plays.

Corpus Christi also got points from Emil Romig, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Wayland Williams, who had one.

The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Corpus Christi power plays. Amarillo's offense rang up 39 shots on the IceRays' net.

The Bulls were led by Hampus Gustafsson, who scored the team's only goal. Gustafsson scored 6:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amarillo. Joe Grabowski assisted on the tally.

Corpus Christi's Stewart stopped 38 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The IceRays incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Paul Berrafato made 19 saves for Amarillo on 21 shots. The Bulls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
