St. Catharines wins tough contest against Welland, 3-2

The St. Catharines Falcons and the Welland Jr. Canadians were evenly matched throughout their contest, but St. Catharines made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jimmy Sheehan's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The win by the Falcons clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Sheehan had a great game for St. Catharines, netting two goals.

The Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. St. Catharines' offense rang up 40 shots on Welland's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Spencer DeWolfe as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Christian Harper, Kyle Woodhouse, Yanni Rallis, Aaron Taylor, Mitch Bennett, and Luke Karaim, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Matt Gillard, who grabbed one goal. Gillard scored 7:52 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Josh Gervais provided the assist. Riley Brooks also scored for Welland. More assists for Welland came via Brooker Muir, Chris Langdon, and Braden Curry, who each chipped in one.

Jonathon D Ilario made 24 saves for the Falcons on 26 shots. St. Catharines incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chris McDougall recorded 37 saves for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
