Huge game by Klie boosts Cambridge over Stratford, 4-1Galt Arena Gardens Sat, Mar 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cambridge Winter Hawks' Mitch Klie had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 4-1 win over the Stratford Cullitons. Klie scored at 4:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge and again while 16:55 into the third to make the score 3-1 Cambridge.The win by Cambridge broke a deadlock and gave the Winter Hawks a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Cambridge was led by goalie Lucas Machalski, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Machalski managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.53 prior to the game. Stratford's power play was ineffective against the Winter Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Cambridge forced the Cullitons goalie Nick Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Cambridge also got a goal from Trevor Hache as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Chris Taylor, who had two and Kyle Locke and Andrew Coupland, who contributed one a piece. Stratford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Cambridge power plays. The Cullitons' offense rang up 36 shots on the Winter Hawks' net. Stratford was led by Trevor Sauder, who scored the team's only goal. Sauder scored on the power play 7:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Cullitons had gained a power play chance when Maxime Lamontagne was whistled for roughing. Ryan Watson picked up the assist. Cambridge incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Stratford's Caldwell stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Cullitons incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
