Grimsby downs New Hamburg in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Grimsby Peach Kings' Adam Burt scored 8:36 into overtime to beat the New Hamburg Firebirds, 6-5 (OT).

Grimsby overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Peach Kings trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by New Hamburg's Sam Murray at 10:02 in the first period. Grimsby tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Kyle McDonald at 14:48 in the third period.

The Peach Kings was paced on offense by Anthony Pullia and Burt, who combined for six points. Pullia grabbed two goals and one assist and Burt also notched one goal and two assists.

The Firebirds were unable to stop Grimsby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Peach Kings eventually piled up 52 shots on goal. Grimsby bested its season scoring average. The Peach Kings have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Grimsby also got points from Burt, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Colin Isnor, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Colin Wierts also scored for Grimsby. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Daniel Paonessa, who had two and Cooper Naugoris, Robert Wormald, Jordan McCarl, and Curtis Jacques, who each chipped in one.

New Hamburg forced Grimsby's goalies to work all game long, taking 45 shots and forcing 40 saves. Marcus Hlywka made 31 stops and Jeremy Currie made nine.

The Firebirds were led by Nick Pope, who tallied one goal and three assists. Pope scored 14:48 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Sean Kienapple picked up the assist. New Hamburg additionally got points from Kyle Mohr, who also registered one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Sean Hergott as well. More assists for New Hamburg came via Jay DAguilar, Brandon Yantzi, and Brock Yantzi, who contributed one a piece.

The Peach Kings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. New Hamburg's Eric Peicheff stopped 46 shots out of the 52 that he faced. The Firebirds incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. New Hamburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Coy Kulich was ejected from the game.
