Curry's goals lift Welland to 3-1 victory over Port Colborne

The Welland Jr. Canadians relied on the scoring touch of Braden Curry, who netted two goals, to beat the Port Colborne Pirates, 3-1.

Curry found the back of the net 14:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Welland and again while 6:02 into the third to make the score 3-1 Welland.

The win by Welland clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

The Jr. Canadians' Chris McDougall was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past him. McDougall certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.49 entering the contest.

Welland stifled Port Colborne's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Welland also got a goal from Gabe Ruggi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Matt Gillard, Brooker Muir, Chris Brown, Josh Gervais, and Drake Lynds, who contributed one a piece.

The Pirates' offense rang up 43 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

Port Colborne was led by Bryan Komasara, who scored the team's only goal. Komasara scored 13:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Dayne Phillips provided the assist.

Welland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Real Cormier made 15 saves for the Pirates on 18 shots. Port Colborne totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For the Pirates, Trevor Smith was ejected from the game.
