WHITBY holds on for 2-1 win against AURORAMagna Centre Sat, Mar 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
AURORA tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but WHITBY held on for a 2-1 victory. WHITBY made the score 2-0 on a goal by Hailey Noronha at 2:27 in the third period, and AURORA got as close as 2-1 when Ashley Rothon scored 9:23 into the third period. The win by WHITBY clinched the best of five series at 3-1. AURORA was stymied by WHITBY netminder Hannah Baker, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Baker will be reflected in her goals against average, which pre-game was 1.18. WHITBY put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow AURORA to score on any of its four power plays. WHITBY kept AURORA's goalie busy throughout the game, and Paula Voorheis made 30 saves on 32 shots. Cassidy Vinkle also scored for WHITBY. In addition, WHITBY received assists from Hanna Bunton and Krista Yip-Chuck, who contributed one a piece. AURORA did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Other players who recorded assists for AURORA were Alie Brindamour-McClure(A) and Christina Ieradi, who each chipped in one. WHITBY incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
