Huge game by Rob boosts Welland over Port Colborne, 7-4

Lapine Rob had one goal and three assists to lead the Welland Jr. Canadians to a 7-4 victory over the Port Colborne Pirates.

Rob beat Real Cormier with a shot 15:30 into the second period on the power play to make the score 5-4 Welland. Welland had gained a power play chance when Zack Deconilys was whistled for cross checking. Riley Brooks picked up the assist. Rob dished an assist on Jason Lacroix's goal that made the score 3-1 Port Colborne at 13:14 into the first period. He then added assists on Derrik Vannas's goal at 9:14 into the second and on Vannas' goal at 14:10 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Port Colborne faces elimination next time out.

The Jr. Canadians were led by goalie Matt Coulombe, who finished with 40 saves while allowing one goal. Coulombe certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.81 entering the contest.

The Pirates fell victim to a deadly Welland power play, which ripped Port Colborne for four goals.

The Jr. Canadians forced the Pirates' goalies to work in net, getting 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Cormier made 21 stops and Morgan Hudson made nine. Welland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Port Colborne power plays.

Welland also got points from Brooker Muir, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Josh Gervais, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Adam Mataya also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Braden Curry, who had two, Chris Brown, who had three, and Seebach M and Ryan Migliaccio, who each chipped in one.

Port Colborne's offense rang up 49 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

The Pirates were helped by Dima Lavrenov, who grabbed one goal. Lavrenov scored 4:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Deconilys assisted on the tally. Port Colborne additionally got points from Michael Sharp, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Trevor Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist. Port Colborne also got a goal from Nick Berst as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Thomas Sestini and Dayne Phillips, who contributed one a piece.

Welland incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Port Colborne incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
