Welland's comeback falls short, Port Colborne wins 5-4

The Port Colborne Pirates came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Welland Jr. Canadians, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Port Colborne led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Pirates' Dima Lavrenov's scored at 1:26 in the second period to put Port Colborne up 3-0.

The win by the Pirates broke a deadlock and gave Port Colborne a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Bryan Komasara had a great game for the Pirates, netting two goals. Komasara's tallies came on the power play at 18:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Colborne and 18:57 into the third to make the score 5-3 Port Colborne.

Port Colborne forced Welland goalie Matt Coulombe to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Port Colborne also got points from Lavrenov, who also had one goal and one assist. Port Colborne also got a goal from Trevor Smith as well. More assists for Port Colborne came via Thomas Sestini, DYLAN BURDICK, Pat Murphy, and Nick Berst, who contributed one a piece and Zack Deconilys and Dayne Phillips, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Canadians got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Welland was led by Chris Langdon, who racked up two goals and one assist. Langdon scored the first of his two goals at 7:13 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Colborne. Josh Gervais assisted on the tally. Langdon's next tally made the score 4-3 Port Colborne with 4:46 left in the second period. The Jr. Canadians had gotten the advantage when the Pirates' Jordan Warren was sent off for slashing. Chris Brown picked up the assist. Brooker Muir also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Matt Gillard, Jason Lacroix, and Lapine Rob, who contributed one a piece.

Real Cormier rejected 26 shots on goal for Port Colborne. The Pirates incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Welland's Coulombe stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
