Port Colborne beats Welland 3-0 as Cormier gains shutout

The Port Colborne Pirates used a sparkling performance by Real Cormier to take down the Welland Jr. Canadians, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Port Colborne's 3-0 shutout victory.

With the win, the Pirates evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Port Colborne's penalty kill excelled, as the Pirates gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Port Colborne stifled Welland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Pirates were helped by Nathan Judd Warren, who racked up one goal. Judd Warren scored 10:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Charlie Izaguirre provided the assist. Zack Deconilys also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Dayne Phillips, who had one and Pat Murphy and Bryan Komasara, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Canadians kept Port Colborne's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cormier made 50 saves on 50 shots.

The Pirates incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors. Welland's Chris McDougall stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
