Strathroy rolls over Chatham, 6-2West Middlesex Arena Tue, Mar 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Chatham Maroons had trouble finding ways to stop the Strathroy Rockets, which beat Maroons, 6-2. With the win, Strathroy evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:16 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts. The Rockets cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. Strathroy was helped by Wes Baker, who had two goals. Baker scored the first of his two goals at 9:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Strathroy. Max Naus picked up the assist. Baker's next tally made the score 5-1 Strathroy with 19:25 left in the third period. Kurtis Sander assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got points from Tyler Duarte, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Mike Mandarelli, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nick Boyer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Brett Dalton, who had two and Trevor Dulong, Stuart King, Adam Vandersluis, and Dylan Wilson-Foote, who contributed one a piece. Chatham forced the Rockets goalie Dalen Kuchmey to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Maroons were led by Alexander Morgan, who had one goal and one assist. Morgan scored on the power play 15:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Micheal Woolley had put Chatham on the power play. Evan Mascaro provided the assist. Chatham also got a goal from Oliver Blayne as well. In addition, Chatham received assists from Michael Verboom, who had one. Kuchmey recorded 35 saves for Strathroy. The Rockets ended with 68 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors and two majors. For Strathroy, Woolley and Vandersluis were ejected from the contest. Darien Ekblad made 21 saves for the Maroons on 26 shots. Chatham totaled 60 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and two majors and went 2-for-9 on the power play. Team's Brayden Hopkins and Thomas Eady were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
