Newmarket rolls over Lindsay, 4-1Lindsay Recreation Centre Fri, Mar 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Newmarket Hurricanes were firing on all cylinders against the Lindsay Muskies, and when the final buzzer sounded Hurricanes emerged with a 4-1 win. The win gave Newmarket a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Hurricanes pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 64 penalty minutes. Newmarket was sparked by Chris Chiste, who finished with one goal and one assist. Chiste scored on the power play 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when Lindsay's Bryce Sweeting was sent off for holding. Daniel Leavens assisted on the tally. Newmarket put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Muskies to score on any of their 12 power plays. The Hurricanes forced Lindsay goalie Tanner Davis to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Newmarket additionally got points from Kyler Nixon, who also registered one goal and one assist and Leavens, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Matt LeMasurier also scored for Newmarket. More assists for Newmarket came via Travis Dermott, Elliott Burlon, Calvin Higley, and Justin Maiolino, who contributed one a piece. The Muskies' penalty kill managed to stymie Newmarket's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. Lindsay was led by Jake Taylor, who scored the team's only goal. Taylor scored 12:04 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Newmarket. Louis-David Bourgault picked up the assist. Matthew Wintjes recorded 19 saves for the Hurricanes. For Newmarket, Brandon Francisco was ejected from the game. Tanner Davis made 42 saves for the Muskies on 46 shots. Lindsay incurred 80 minutes in penalty time with 25 minors.
