Flint outlasts Three Rivers, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Flint Jr. Generals escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Three Rivers Vengeance.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Eric Jones's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

After the loss made the series score 2-0 in the best of five series, Three Rivers faces elimination next time out.

Flint was led by Jones, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Jones scored 17:54 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Flint. Andrew Lay picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Vengeance were sparked by Alex Berardinelli, who racked up two goals. Berardinelli scored the first of his two goals at 4:10 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Nico Vecchio provided the assist. Berardinelli's next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:28 left in the third period. Brooks Antill assisted on the tally.

The Jr. Generals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Three Rivers to score on any of its three power plays.

Flint additionally got points from Jacob Howie, who also had one goal and one assist and Zachery Hill, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

The Vengeance's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Flint power plays. Three Rivers' offense rang up 41 shots on Flint's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Three Rivers were Tom Diffendal, who had one.

Anders Franke recorded 39 saves for the Jr. Generals. Flint ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Vengeance's Matthew Erlichman stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Three Rivers ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major.
