Tampa Juniors outlasts Hampton Roads Whalers, 6-4

Tampa Juniors gutted out a close 6-4 win against Hampton Roads Whalers.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Thomas Miller at 7:03 of the second period.

Tommy Whiteley was all over the ice for Tampa Juniors, as he racked up two goals in the win. Whiteley's tallies came on the power play at 2:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads Whalers and on the power play 14:16 into the third to make the score 5-3 Tampa Juniors.

Tampa Juniors pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

Tampa Juniors forced Hampton Roads Whalers' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 52 shots and forcing 46 saves. Blake Scott made 25 stops and Brett Kilar made 21. Tampa Juniors bested its season scoring average. Tampa Juniors averages 3.4 goals per game. Tampa Juniors capitalized on Hampton Roads Whalers' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The defensemen of Tampa Juniors were also effective in Hampton Roads Whalers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Joshua Feeley also scored for Tampa Juniors. Other players who recorded assists for Tampa Juniors were Paul Lochner, who had two and Scott Lemire and Ryan Menard, who each chipped in one.

Hampton Roads Whalers kept Tampa Juniors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Malvin made 47 saves on 51 shots.

Hampton Roads Whalers was led by Alexander Brissette, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Brissette scored 19:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hampton Roads Whalers. Joshua Malts assisted on the tally. Hampton Roads Whalers also got points from Nicholas Michels, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hampton Roads Whalers also got a goal from Cameron Snyder as well. In addition, Hampton Roads Whalers received assists from Cody Pessig and Clayton Kanemitsu, who contributed one a piece.
