Granite City survives Alexandria comeback, wins 4-3Armadillo Deck Arena East Sat, Mar 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alexandria Blizzard tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Granite City Lumberjacks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Granite City took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Alexandria storm back on a Will Becker goal 5:45 into the third period to pull to one goal down. After the loss made the series score 2-0 in the best of five series, the Blizzard face elimination next time out. Drew Otto had two goals and two assists to lead the Lumberjacks. Otto scored the first of his two goals at 3:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Otto's next tally made the score 3-2 Granite City with 4:55 left in the second period. Granite City had gained a power play chance when Mick Dhein was whistled for tripping. Matt Peterson picked up the assist. The Lumberjacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Granite City also got a goal from Eric Miller as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Aidan Verbeke, who had two. Alexandria was led by Nate Mettenburg, who racked up one goal and two assists. Mettenburg scored short handed 17:35 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. A head contact call on Ricky Seidel put the Blizzard on the penalty kill. Spencer Peratalo assisted on the tally. Alexandria additionally got points from Dhein, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Ian Eckland and Hunter Bowlin, who contributed one a piece. Scott Murray made 27 saves for Granite City on 30 shots. The Lumberjacks totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Dom DeGuisseppi rejected 18 shots on goal for Alexandria. The Blizzard ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
