Marshall School Duluth beats Rochester Lourdes 6-5 after comeback scareMariucci Main Arena Sat, Mar 09, 2013 The Marshall School Duluth Hilltoppers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Rochester Lourdes Eagles on the way to a 6-5 win. A goal by Connor Flaherty put Marshall School Duluth up 5-2 in the second period, but Rochester Lourdes pulled to within one on Ben Weir's tally 1:12 into the third period. The win gave the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. Matthew Klassen was all over the ice for Marshall School Duluth, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Klassen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:56 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Marshall School Duluth. A checking from behind penalty on Alex Funk had put the Hilltoppers on the power play. Kyle Jones picked up the assist. Klassen's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Marshall School Duluth with 14:07 left in the third period. Jeremy Lopez provided the assist. Marshall School Duluth additionally got points from Michael Damberg, who also had one goal and one assist. Marshall School Duluth also got a goal from Joe Daly as well. In addition, Marshall School Duluth received assists from John McKenna, Kris McKinzie, Lane Krenzen, Luke Pavelich, Lane Eliason, and Cam McClure, who contributed one a piece. Marshall School Duluth was unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Rochester Lourdes eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Jason Samuelson also scored for Rochester Lourdes. Other players who recorded assists for Rochester Lourdes were Karl Krecke, who had two and Dakota Streit and Mason Carstens, who each chipped in one. The Hilltoppers' Caden Flaherty stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Marshall School Duluth totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Eagles' starting goalie, Andrew Ellingson, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jack Berkel, who stopped two shots. Rochester Lourdes totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. |
