Jared Schletty stood on his head and made 33 saves to lead Yellowstone Quake to a 4-1 victory over Gillette Wild. The win gave Yellowstone Quake a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. Yellowstone Quake put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette Wild to score on any of its four power plays. Yellowstone Quake forced Gillette Wild goalie Brandon Kruckenberg to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Yellowstone Quake was helped by Orri Haman, who tallied two goals. Haman scored the first of his two goals at 4:21 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Yellowstone Quake. George Splichal assisted on the tally. Haman's next tally made the score 4-1 Yellowstone Quake with 5:38 left in the third period. Yellowstone Quake earned a power play opportunity when Tyson Loundagin was put in the box for head contact. Brandon Busse picked up the assist. Yellowstone Quake also got points from Busse, who also registered one goal and one assist and Trent Carter, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Yellowstone Quake received assists from Anthony Leong, Brandon Smith, James Pyle, Oli Jansson, and Andrew Lansing, who contributed one a piece. Yellowstone Quake was unable to stop Gillette Wild from sending pucks towards the net, and Gillette Wild eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Gillette Wild was led by Trent Dillinger, who scored the team's only goal. Dillinger scored 10:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Yellowstone Quake. Moco Willis provided the assist. Yellowstone Quake totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Brandon Kruckenberg made 37 saves for Gillette Wild on 41 shots. Gillette Wild ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
