Garon's big game bests Wheatley in 5-2 Essex win

Alex Garon had two goals and one assist to lead the Essex 73s to a 5-2 victory over the Wheatley Sharks.

Garon scored at 9:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex and again while short handed 6:24 into the third to make the score 3-1 Essex.

The win gave Essex a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Essex gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The 73s forced Wheatley goalie Marc Tremblay to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Essex also got points from Jordan Brohman, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Daniel McIntyre, who also had one goal and one assist. Marco Canzoneri also scored for Essex. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Curtis Prymack, who had one and Corey Beaulieu, who had two.

The Sharks were helped by Brendon Anger, who tallied one goal. Anger scored 11:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Essex. Riley Babkirk assisted on the tally. Wheatley also got a goal from Brian Johnson as well. More assists for Wheatley came via Kevin Sawatzky, Dylan Impens, and Austin Fontaine, who contributed one a piece.

Trevor Wheaton recorded 16 saves for Essex. The 73s incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wheatley's Tremblay stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Sharks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
