Edina uses big second period to beat Lakeville North, 9-3

The Lakeville North Panthers allowed the Edina Hornets to net five goals during the second period and fell, 9-3.

 

The Hornets forced Lakeville North's goalies to work without much rest, firing 35 shots and forcing 26 saves. Will Dupont made 15 stops and Pierce Wilson made 11.

Edina was helped by Dylan Malmquist, who registered two goals and one assist. Malmquist scored the first of his two goals at 5:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Edina. Matt Nelson provided the assist. Malmquist's next tally made the score 7-1 Edina with 9:05 left in the second period. The Hornets had gained a power play chance when Alec Larson was whistled for charging. Nelson picked up the assist. Edina additionally got points from Anthony Walsh, who also had one goal and one assist and Andy Jordahl, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Edina also had goals scored by Connor Hurley, who had three and Bo Brauer and Matt Masterman, who each put in one. More assists for Edina came via Ben Foley, Cullen Raasch, and Dan Hinueber, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Nick Poehling, Jack Diercks and Alex Wood took eight of the team's 15 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Lakeville North were Jack Poehling, Jack Sadek, Erik Rutt, and Tristan Hazlett, who contributed one a piece.

Edina's Willie Benjamin stopped 12 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Hornets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Lakeville North incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
