North Iowa blows out Flint, 5-0

The North Iowa Bulls were firing on all cylinders against the Flint Jr. Generals, and when the final buzzer sounded Bulls emerged with a 5-0 win.

The win gave North Iowa a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Bulls' penalty kill excelled, as North Iowa gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Bulls were led by Bryan Broders, who grabbed one goal. Broders scored 11:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Kyle Krueger assisted on the tally.

North Iowa stifled Flint's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

North Iowa additionally got points from Richie Marenis, who also racked up one goal and one assist and James Hughes, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Eric Behrend also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Jake Johnson, who had two and McFarlanne B, Ron Lindgren, and Timothy Santopoalo, who each chipped in one.

Penalties took their toll on the Jr. Generals, as their penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

The Bulls' Matthew Bartels stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. North Iowa ended with 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Anders Franke made 25 saves for Flint on 30 shots. The Jr. Generals ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
