Kapelmaster stymies Frederick, NY AppleCore wins 4-1

Justin Kapelmaster had a standout game with 29 saves, and the NY AppleCore Minor B beat the Frederick Freeze 4-1.

The win gave NY AppleCore a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Minor B's penalty kill excelled, as NY AppleCore gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Minor B were led by Blake Manginell, who finished with one goal and one assist. Manginell scored on the power play 59 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 NY AppleCore. Cale Schoenberg picked up the assist.

NY AppleCore stifled Frederick's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Minor B kept the Freeze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michal Marcinek made 45 saves on 49 shots.

NY AppleCore additionally got points from John Stevenson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dominick Sacco also scored for NY AppleCore. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Andrew DeAngelis, Jonas Toupal, and Nolan Pues, who each chipped in one.

Frederick was led by Logan Coomes, who scored the team's only goal. Coomes scored 9:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Richard Novodomec provided the assist.

NY AppleCore incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Freeze incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
