Hawkesbury wins tough contest against Smiths Falls, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hawkesbury Hawks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Smiths Falls Bears.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Travis Meyer secured the win for Hawkesbury with a goal in the second period.

The Hawks got the win thanks to a great game by Roman Ammirato, who had two goals and one assist. Ammirato scored the first of his two goals at 3:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mac Blanchette picked up the assist. Ammirato's next tally made the score 2-2 with 8:01 left in the second period. Hawkesbury had gained a power play chance when Peter Soligo was whistled for cross checking. Meyer assisted on the tally.

Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hawkesbury eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Meyer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from William Plamondon and Justin Villeneuve, who each chipped in one.

The Bears forced the Hawks goalie Carmine Guerriero to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Smiths Falls was helped by Yannick Crete, who finished with one goal. Crete scored on the power play 12:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. A goalie interference penalty on Tristen Elie had put the Bears on the power play. Jeffrey Carroll picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Cameron Romoff as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Blaine Byron, Stefano Momesso, and Karson McCartney, who contributed one a piece.

Guerriero recorded 39 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Smiths Falls' Patrick Martin stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
