Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the New Hamburg Firebirds battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Norwich Merchants. New Hamburg never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Firebirds was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Norwich's Brett Parsons at 8:27 in the first period. New Hamburg tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Kyle McDonald at 4:22 in the third period. The Firebirds got the game winner at 16:53 in the third period on a goal by McDonald. With the win, New Hamburg evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Sean Kienapple had two goals to lead the Firebirds to victory. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:37 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. More assists for New Hamburg came via Sam Murray, Kory Nowak, Jay DAguilar, and Coy Kulich, who each chipped in one. The Merchants were helped by Drake Morrell, who finished with one goal. Morrell scored 4:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Norwich. Brandon Zimmermann assisted on the tally. In addition, Norwich received assists from Gus Ford, who had one. Eric Peicheff made 15 saves for New Hamburg on 17 shots. The Firebirds totaled 56 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Team's Eric Fischer, Connor Voigt, and Brock Yantzi were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Matt McGonigle rejected 25 shots on goal for Norwich.
