Stratford survives Waterloo comeback, wins 3-1

The Waterloo Siskins almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Stratford Cullitons managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end.

Stratford led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cullitons' Mitch Brooks's scored at 7:58 in the second period to put Stratford up 3-0.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Waterloo faces elimination next time out.

The Siskins were stymied by the Cullitons netminder Nick Caldwell, who stopped 43 shots during the victory. Caldwell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.01 entering the contest.

Waterloo's power play was ineffective against Stratford's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cullitons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Waterloo power plays. Stratford kept the Siskins' goalie busy throughout the game, and PJ Bridges made 29 saves on 32 shots.

The Cullitons were helped by Jared Culliton, who tallied one goal. Culliton scored on the power play 5:13 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Stratford. Stratford had taken the advantage when Waterloo's Stephen Witiuk got sent off for roughing. Shane O Brien assisted on the tally. Stratford also got a goal from Ryker Killins as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Dylan Wettlaufer, Mike Pleon, and Andrew Barton, who contributed one a piece.

The Cullitons were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Waterloo eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

The Siskins were led by Danny Hanlon, who scored the team's only goal. Hanlon scored 8:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. Jacob Bonin provided the assist.

Stratford incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Waterloo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
