Stratford blows out Waterloo, 6-2

The Waterloo Siskins had trouble finding ways to stop the Stratford Cullitons, which beat Siskins, 6-2.

With the win, Stratford evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

The Cullitons were led by Jeff McArdle, who registered one goal. McArdle scored 16:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. Andrew Barton assisted on the tally.

Stratford made Waterloo's goalies to work all game long, getting 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Darren Huck made 18 stops and PJ Bridges made seven. The defensemen of the Cullitons were also effective in the Siskins' zone, and came away with two goals.

Stratford also got points from Brett Heaman, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Mitch Vandergunst, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Ryan Watson as well. More assists for Stratford came via Jordan Currie, who had one, Shane O Brien, who had three, and Mitch Brooks and Dylan Wettlaufer, who contributed two a piece.

Waterloo stifled Stratford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Siskins forced the Cullitons goalie Nick Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Waterloo was led by Evan Buehler, who had one goal. Buehler scored on the power play 14:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. A slashing penalty on Vandergunst had put the Siskins on the power play. Matthew Mah picked up the assist. Ryan Doucette also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from James Soper, Adam Campagnolo, and Christian Mroczkowski, who each chipped in one.

Nick Caldwell made 40 saves for Stratford on 42 shots. The Cullitons totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Stratford, Josh Miller was ejected from the game. Waterloo totaled 39 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nik Knezic was ejected from the game.
