The Waterloo Siskins and the Stratford Cullitons were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Waterloo made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Evan Buehler secured the win for the Siskins with a goal in the third period. The win gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Buehler was all over the ice for the Siskins, as he racked up two goals in the win. Waterloo's offense rang up 33 shots on Stratford's net. Waterloo also got a goal from Stephen Witiuk as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Danny Hanlon, who had two and Trevor Atkinson APJ, Eric Cimino, Brandon Jones, James Soper, Ryan Doucette, and Jacob Bonin, who contributed one a piece. The Cullitons forced the Siskins goalie Darren Huck to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Stratford was helped by Jake Ryan, who grabbed one goal. Ryan scored on the power play 13:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stratford. The Cullitons had taken the advantage when Waterloo's Atkinson APJ got sent off for tripping. Andrew Barton picked up the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Shane O Brien, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brett Heaman also scored for Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Jonathan Langford, Ryan Watson, Jake Pleon, and Mike Pleon, who each chipped in one. The Siskins' Huck stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Waterloo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nick Caldwell made 29 saves for Stratford on 33 shots. The Cullitons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
