Wayzata downs Benilde St. Margarets, 5-2

Chandler Linstrand registered one point to lead the Wayzata Trojans to a 5-2 victory over the Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights.

 

In the losing effort, Benilde St. Margarets was sparked by Chase Jungels, who grabbed two goals. Jungels scored the first of his two goals at 6:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Benilde St. Margarets. Mark Kaske provided the assist. Jungels' next tally made the score 2-1 Benilde St. Margarets with 18:15 left in the second period. Spencer Naas assisted on the tally.

Wayzata put 22 shots on net during the contest, more than the 7.3 it averages per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Wayzata additionally got points from Jalen Wahl, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Matthew Freytag also scored for Wayzata. In addition, Wayzata received assists from Maxwell Zimmer, Akash Batra, Chad Olson, Alex Stevens, Chase Heising, Robert Zitzlperger, and Jack Sorensen, who each chipped in one.

The Red Knights' offense operated below they season average. Benilde St. Margarets averages 5.3 goals per game. The 30 shots that the Red Knights put on net surpassed Benilde St. Margarets' average of 10.0 shots per game this season.

The Trojans' Aaron Dingman stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Wayzata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Andrew Sprang recorded 17 saves for the Red Knights. Benilde St. Margarets incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

With the win the Wayzata Trojans now move on to participate in the 2013 Class AA MSHSL State Tourney for only the 3rd time in the school's history.
