London survives St. Thomas comeback, wins 5-3

The St. Thomas Stars tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the London Nationals held on for a 5-3 victory.

London made the score 4-0 on a goal by Aaron Dartch at 2:20 in the second period, and St. Thomas got as close as 4-2 when Scott Mitchell scored 2:12 into the third period.

The win gave the Nationals a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

London's penalty kill excelled, as the Nationals gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

London additionally got points from Blake Thomas, who also had one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Sean Consitt as well. More assists for London came via Noah Schwartz, who had three and Shawn Crowley, Matt Fuller, Mark Gazdic, and Jonathan Sims, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars were led by Mike Iacocca, who racked up two goals and one assist. Iacocca scored the first of his two goals at 9:56 into the second period to make the score 4-1 London. Drew Collinson provided the assist. Iacocca's next tally made the score 5-3 London with 13:54 left in the third period. Reid Oliver picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Martin Kudla, who had one.

London's Taylor Edwards stopped 15 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Nationals incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Donald Edwards rejected 20 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For St. Thomas, Michael Lucifora was ejected from the game.
