Cobourg uses early goal to top Trenton, 2-0

Conner Hogg gave the Cobourg Cougars the lead in the first period, and the Trenton Golden Hawks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Cobourg took over the lead for good with a goal by Hogg at 19:59 in the first period. The Cougars had gotten the advantage when Trenton's Sammy Banga was sent off for roughing after whistle. Justin Danforth picked up the assist.

The win gave Cobourg a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Nathan Perry frustrated the Golden Hawks' offense all game, and stopped 27 shots en route to a shutout. Perry managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.0 prior to the game.

Trenton's power play was ineffective against the Cougars' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Cobourg's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Trenton power plays. The Golden Hawks were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Cobourg also got a goal from Dylan Goddard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Evan Jasper, who had one and Connor Armour, who had two.

The Cougars incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Andrew Winsor made 29 saves for Trenton on 31 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
