Cobourg beats Trenton 6-4 after comeback scare

The Trenton Golden Hawks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Cobourg Cougars would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

Cobourg made the score 6-3 on a goal by Connor Armour at 9:46 in the third period, and Trenton got as close as 6-4 when Shawn Hulshof scored 13:06 into the third period.

The win gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Cobourg was led by Mark MacAulay, who registered one goal. MacAulay scored 17:46 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Cobourg. Justin Danforth assisted on the tally.

The Cougars forced the Golden Hawks' goaltenders to work between the pipes, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Andrew Winsor made 25 stops and Victor Adamo made three.

Cobourg also got points from Dylan Goddard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Armour, who also finished with two goals and two assists. Conner Hogg also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Matt Martin, Jake Emilio, Theo Lewis, and Colbie Andrews, who contributed one a piece.

Trenton was helped by Sammy Banga, who tallied one goal. Banga scored 8:19 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cobourg. Jordan Minello provided the assist. Trenton also got a goal from Josh Timpano as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Dillon Warner, who had two and Ori Abramson, Alex Leader, and Nick Marinac, who each chipped in one.

Nathan Perry rejected 22 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Golden Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
