Hopkins' big game bests Lambton Shores in 6-3 Chatham win

Brayden Hopkins had one goal and two assists to lead the Chatham Maroons to a 6-3 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Hopkins scored 4:46 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Chatham. Michael Verboom picked up the assist. Hopkins dished an assist on Trevor Richardson's goal that made the score 1-0 Chatham at 15 seconds into the first period. He added another helper on Richardson's goal that made the score 6-3 Chatham at 17:45 into the third period.

The win gave Chatham a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Maroons forced Predators' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 55 shots and forcing 49 saves. Justin Tugwell made 36 stops and Brandon Campbell made 13. Chatham put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lambton Shores to score on any of its three power plays.

Chatham also got points from Brennan Feasey, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Morris Branden also scored for Chatham. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Ben Pataki, Connor Doran, Evan Mascaro, Eric Palazzolo, and Ian Faubert, who contributed one a piece.

The Predators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Chatham power plays.

Lambton Shores was helped by Adam Arseneault, who registered one goal. Arseneault scored 11:20 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Chatham. Nick Sproveiro provided the assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Cale Duberry as well. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Sam Jasmin, who had one.

Darien Ekblad recorded 27 saves for the Maroons. Chatham incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Predators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
