Buffalo downs Burlington in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Northtown Feature Mon, Feb 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Buffalo Jr. Sabres pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Burlington Cougars on a clutch goal by Max Mikowski. The win gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Jr. Sabres overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Buffalo fell behind 4-2 after a power play goal by Burlington's Mike Sones at 10:41 in the second period. The Jr. Sabres tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Tyler Mayea at 17:41 in the third period. Mikowski was all over the ice for Buffalo, as he racked up two goals in the win. Mikowski's tallies came short handed at 3:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 1:54 into the fourth to make the score 6-5 Buffalo. The Cougars were unable to stop the Jr. Sabres from sending pucks towards the net, and Buffalo eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. Buffalo additionally got points from Tyler Gjurich, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Nolan Sheeran, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Sean Federow as well. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Nathan Pelligra, who had two and Darrin Trebes, Tony DeVito, Nathan Sucese, Derek Patterson, Nick Scamurra, and Dylan Howatt, who contributed one a piece. Burlington forced the Jr. Sabres goalie Parker Gahagen to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Burlington also got points from Steven Mueller, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Mayea, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Daniel Campbell also scored for Burlington. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Joe Sullivan, who had two and Jeremy Gottzmann, Adam Glynn, and Brett Coulson, who each chipped in one. Gahagen rejected 30 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Alex Murray recorded 47 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
