Machalski leads Cambridge to shutout victory over Elmira

Dan Snyder Memorial    Wed, Mar 06, 2013

Lucas Machalski recorded a shutout against the Elmira Sugar Kings as the Cambridge Winter Hawks picked up a 4-0 win.

The win by Cambridge clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

The Winter Hawks were led by Tyler Snyder, who registered one goal. Snyder scored 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Elmira to score on any of its four power plays. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Kyle Locke also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Cody Gratton, who had two and Christian Barnard and Alex Bottigoni, who each chipped in one.

Elmira forced the Winter Hawks goalie Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Cambridge's Machalski stopped 42 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Winter Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hayden Neuman made 36 saves for the Sugar Kings on 40 shots. Elmira incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
